Summer's Over

Normally I love summer more than any other time of year. For one thing, it's warmer out. I hate the cold. I know as someone who originally grew up in Nebraska, everyone (especially other Texans) thinks I should be used to the cold and not mind it. Well, I hated the cold when I lived up there, and I still dislike it. I used to have a home studio and took great comfort in not having to go outside to go to work during the winter months. Even in Texas, it can get a bit nippy during the winter. Anything below about 50 is too cold to my mind. So I'll take a 100 degree day in Summer over a 30 degree one in winter any day.
Another reason I enjoy summer better is that several of the movie theaters have midnight or later showings during the season. I guess they figure kids don't have to go to school in the morning so they can stay out later. As someone who's somewhat a creature of the night, I'm all for being able to catch films on my time.
Unfortunately, this summer was more bad than good. At the end of June I came down with a nasty case of food poisoning that messed up my stomach pretty badly and caused a small ulcer. I'm still slowly recovering from it now, but at least I'm back to eating solid foods. I try to watch what I eat these days anyway, but spending almost two months eating nothing but soft foods is no fun! The pain wasn't too enjoyable either. Coming off a crappy birthday, most of the summer was spent in misery.
I did get to make it back to Lincoln for a weekend back in August. We did a show for the UNL athletic department to show off their new indoor practice field to their donors. Guess they figured they needed something big to impress them since the football team can't anymore. Always nice to get a free trip back home for whatever reason, so I can't complain! Here's a couple of pics from the tip, first from the show itself, second of a rainbow that I happened to catch when leaving Best Buy (see, even when I'm out of town I can't resist buying DVDs!).

So over all, summer was kind of a dud, but it did have it's high points. Hopefully the fall will go better.
